Life blows - Comp issues « Thread Started on Sept 28, 2007, 2:28pm »
Ummm...yeah. So I was recently grounded - not so recently, actually, around a month and a half ago. My mom decided it'd be a good idea to actually take the computer out of the house, despite the fact that I can't get on it anyway without her stupid Bios password.
Anywho, when I go to the profiles screen, click mine and type in my password, it says there's a problem in loading my profile, and that it has to load the default one.
When it finally loads, there's a few error messages that pop up (from programs that can't start) including AIM, MSN and the HP Printer thing. The only icons on my desktop are IE and the Recycle Bin, and there's a blank background. I can't access any of my files either (probably because I set my profile so that only I could view them?), and the most used programs don't work. I can't even pull up an All Programs list.
Strangely enough, my mom's profile was working just fine last night. I wasn't able to try doing mine since she hogged it, and the comp was off all night.
There really doesn't seem to be any explanation.... I hate life.

oh, man... so...we have to figure out wats goin on, huh? hmm... well...first of all, sine i can't tell from ur post, did ur mom mean to do this? or maybe she changed something, as an extra extra (extra? lol) precaution to keep you off, and she messed up, or forgot to turn something blocking ur stuff off?
it sounds sort of like ur profile is...blocked from itself? hmm...

might also be a configuration problem where your profile setup on the system got damaged somehow.... i'm not entirely sure since haven't used vista that much but, maybe it's possible to have deleted some necessary profile files, or they got corrupted..
At the very least though, the default one should work. =\ Although, it's understandable that you may not have access to your personal files while on a default profile.

If you want a personal profile that would work, the easy solution I see is to delete your current one as I imagine the default one has admin powers. After removing your current one, make a new one and start from fresh =/. But if you're wanting to keep your files, then what you'd have to do is save them elsewhere, if you're able to do that. But if you start the computer in safe mode, I imagine you should be able to access your stuff even if the "default" profile can't by instead using Administrator profile. Good luck fixing it

I guess I should've posted that it was fixed the very next day. Thanks anyway, homiez. :3
Basically, when we bought the computer it came with a Norton subscription, but when it ended, we renewed on my mom's profile, and I guess it didn't register that for mine, so my norton was never updated. Funny thing though, the day the computer was taken, nothing was wrong with my profile, but the day I get it back something is. Apparently there was a 'small infection' in mine, so this 'Nerd' company in San Antonio took it and Norton off and gave us some virus protection thing called AVG.
As long as everything's okay, I'm okay. I just didn't want to lose all my music. D:
