This is information I read in the latest issue of PSM that I have. It might be a little out of date, since they were talking about preparing to go to the E3 conference (these mags are written way before they are sent out). But usually their information is accurate, and I doubt they would publish something that's false.
So don't hang me if this info is out of date- I'm only going by what they published.
Here's the watered-down scoop:
*Black is the only launch color.
*There are two-priced versions (the 20GB has less features and you probably won't be able to buy accessories to replace the options that are left off):
20GB - $500
USB - x4
MemoryStick - No
Ethernet - x1
WiFi - No
Bluetooth - Yes
Wireless Controller - Yes
Screen Size - 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p
HDMI Out - No
AV Multi Out - x1
Digital Out - x1
Silver Trim & Logo - No
60GB - $600
USB - x4
MemoryStick - x1
Ethernet - x1
WiFi - Yes
Bluetooth - Yes
Wireless Controller - Yes
Screen Size - 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p
HDMI Out - x1/HDMI NextGen
AV Multi Out - x1
Digital Out - x1
Silver Trim & Logo - Yes
*Cuts made from the initial announcement: 2 rear USB ports, 2 extra Ethernet ports, and a second HDMI port (for dual HDTV)
*The controller is no longer the 'boomerang' shape. It can detect six degrees of motion- up, down, and tilting but can't sense how close it is to the TV. The vibration feature is dropped because of interference with the motion sensor technology. It has similar Xbox 360 analog triggers to replace the old L2 and R2 shoulder buttons. The controllers are wireless but can attach to the PS3 with a USB cable to charge, even while playing.
*Sony plans on selling prepaid cards packed with points for purchasing downloadable content (for those not wanting to use a credit card)
*Basic free services: video chat, friends lists, rankings, account management, player profiles, voice and text messaging, and "the latest info."
We'll just have to wait and see what the final specs of the PS3 are. They keep things so damn secret...
