HD1HD2HD3are terabyte hard drives news to you? they've kinda been around but are really expensive. even that first link is 1.5 terabytes What really is the use for 1000 gigabytes? unless you have HD videos on your computer. I don't know but apparently people need them. Like how over 10 years ago, I had a windows 3.1 computer, I didn't even have a gigabyte, I think maybe only had a few hundred megabytes because there really wasn't the need. But times change

Terabyte drives have been out for a while, but very few and very expensive. And most are for businesses instead of the common consumer, which seems like what this is geared toward (which would also explain why they'd dedicate an article to it.) In the past, people have been chaining drives together to achieve terabytes of space, but it's nice to see a single drive with that capacity. They're just going to get bigger. I like the one they have at TigerDirect - www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2461783&CatId=2422 (although it's not a true TB drive since it consists of four 750 GB drives...but that's proabably better when it comes to scanning) It holds 3 TBs and it's external... so you could use it on multiple computers. But I bet scanning something that size is a bitch and would probably take at least 3 days. Are you kidding? I'd love to have that much space to play around with. Some of my big Photoshop projects have been over 100 MBs.

No, they were new some months ago when Bugg mentioned a 'terrabyte' and I asked what it was. I thought this was neat because it sounded like you could just get it with a plain old PC without having to buy it seperate or anything. You don't have to act like a teacher, there's nothing I want to hear from you. What's not the use? I have plenty of movies and music I'd love to get on here that don't fit. 200 gigs went faaaaaaaaast.

I didn't say there's no use for a terabyte I even gave an example for one I personally wouldnt find the ways to use that much, as it is Ive barely used over 100 GB but that's just ME
I would imagine in another 3-8 years they'll come up with Petabytes but then again probably be then, there will be things that will consume more memory to require that much

If you read to the end of the article, you'll see that they've planned for way more than even petabytes. There's exabytes, zettabytes, and yottabytes. Now we'll need better scanning and file storage systems to match those sizes.

yeah of course there's larger but how long will it take to manage that much space? I mean im sure they could now but you would have to be loaded to afford it

As with all technology, it'll come down in price, probably pretty fast. GB drives used to cost a lot- and now it's become the norm size.
