Here's what I might mess around with when I get some spare time. It sounds like it would work, but you kind of need a Sony or Logitech one to begin with. (which shouldn't be a problem since there's usually a broken one lying around) www.instructables.com/id/ECDUMKZ2MCEP4HD2TU/?ALLSTEPSIf you know of any other headset mods or ideas, post them here. I want something to experiment with.

Looks pretty complicated but if it saves a few bucks then I might give it a shot. I've got three different ones to try stuff on so it doesn't matter if I mess up.

It requires soldering, so if you aren't familiar with that, then I suggest that you practice before trying it. There should be some guides online about how to do it.

Hmmm... Many of you know that my mic has been having some trouble lately (due to the crappy thin wiring in it!). So bugg made a mod of her own to try to get a little more life out of it before it totally quits. Some of you may have had this before...... it's where you can't hear other people, but the mic works fine. And usually, if you move the wires on the side of the volume/mute control with the usb plug, then the sound will go in and out. That's why bugg and I believe it must be the thin wires in the cord. This is the second mic we've owned that has done this. We would get a different type of mic (like madcatz... or whatever) but the sound and mic quality is horrible, plus I WANT A MUTE BUTTON! So here is what bugg came up with...... (you can't buy this kind of a genius contraption in the store!) It consists of a the mic cord taped to a popsicle stick.... and a roller up candy wrapper (we had chocolate covered marshmallow ghosts at the time! ) provides the filler to hold the volume/mute button in position. Then it is all covered in tape to hold in place! Isn't that neat! *....and kinda weird* Occasionally, I have to adjust the wire (press the tape tight again) or move the volume/mute control until I can hear people again, but for the most part I don't have to do anything. Say what you want.... but it works! And I don't have to go waste $20 on a new mic yet.

Trash at its finest! It gets us by. At least until I find time to design a more reliable rig.
